Touch While Moving: Keep the Mazda Touchscreen On
Stock Gen 6 Mazda Connect ignores the touchscreen once the car is moving faster than about 8 km/h (5 mph). With Touch while moving, the touchscreen keeps working at any speed in Mazda’s own screens and in CarPlay. The commander knob, steering-wheel controls, and voice input work as before.
The driver remains responsible for using the screen safely and for following local distracted-driving laws (safety and risk). For background on the factory lockout, see touchscreen disabled while driving.
Turn Touch while moving off or back on
Section titled “Turn Touch while moving off or back on”Touch while moving is on by default. To change it after you buy:
- In My ScreenTune, open Change features. On Setup, select Customize under Everyday improvements and turn Touch while moving off or on.
- Request the updated package (add or change ScreenTune features).
- In the car, choose UPDATE, or REPAIR if the prompt shows the version you already have.
The other route is REMOVE, which takes all of ScreenTune off the car and restores the speed-restriction settings from before ScreenTune (below). New orders make the same choice on the Setup step of the configurator.
What changes on the car
Section titled “What changes on the car”- The speed lockout stays off. ScreenTune switches off the factory speed-restriction settings, so touch behaves the same parked or moving.
- CarPlay accepts touch while moving. CarPlay uses the same touch input as Mazda’s screens.
- The cluster compass keeps working when Mazda navigation is on (below).
Nothing else changes: not the commander knob, the steering-wheel buttons, what any screen shows, or any driving system.
Android Auto does not accept touch at all on stock Gen 6 Mazda Connect, parked or moving. Touch in Android Auto is a separate option, AA Touch.
The cluster compass needs Mazda navigation
Section titled “The cluster compass needs Mazda navigation”On equipped cars, Mazda navigation also drives the heading compass in the instrument cluster,
and it switches the compass on from the same speed signal the lockout uses. Turning the lockout
off would leave the cluster showing -- while driving. Since ScreenTune 1.0.10, a small
background service tells only the navigation software when the car is moving, so the cluster
shows the heading again while touch stays unrestricted.
| Your setup | Cluster compass while driving |
|---|---|
| Touch while moving, Mazda navigation on | Shows the heading. It switches on above about 8 km/h and off below about 5 km/h, close to the factory behavior. |
| Touch while moving, Mazda maps and compass turned off | Off. The compass belongs to Mazda navigation, so it stays off with it. |
| Package older than 1.0.10 | Shows --. Update ScreenTune to get the compass back. |
Turning off Mazda navigation is a choice under Mazda services you don’t use, with its own effects on traffic sign recognition and Active Driving Display.
Check that it works
Section titled “Check that it works”- After the install restart, open Applications → Miatafy and select WHAT’S INSTALLED. The list should include Touch controls while driving.
- With a passenger at the screen, tap a Mazda menu or CarPlay above walking pace. It should respond.
- On a car with Mazda navigation on, the cluster compass should show a heading once the car is moving.
If touch still locks out, or the compass shows -- on a 1.0.10 or later package, insert the
ScreenTune USB and choose REPAIR (repair ScreenTune). If that does not
fix it, see a feature is missing.
What REMOVE restores
Section titled “What REMOVE restores”REMOVE puts back the speed-restriction settings saved at the first ScreenTune installation and deletes the compass service. If touch locked out at speed before ScreenTune, it does again. See remove ScreenTune.
