Mazda Connect Restarts or Stays Black After ScreenTune

Wait a few minutes, power-cycle once, and if the home screen stays up, run REMOVE from the ScreenTune USB. Do not factory reset or reflash before you contact support.

The car is safe to drive meanwhile. The engine, brakes, steering, and instrument cluster run independently of the CMU. The center screen, audio, navigation, and backup camera return when the screen does; the camera hardware is fine.

One dark restart after an action is normal

Section titled “One dark restart after an action is normal”

Every INSTALL, UPDATE, REPAIR, and REMOVE ends with one automatic restart. The whole action takes about two minutes, and the screen is dark for part of it.

  1. Wait. Leave the ignition on for a few minutes without pressing buttons.
  2. Power-cycle once. Turn the ignition off, wait two full minutes, then start the car and give Mazda Connect time to load.
  3. Run REMOVE if the screen stays up. After the home screen appears, insert the ScreenTune USB for this car. If the SCREENTUNE prompt offers REMOVE, choose it and keep the ignition on through the restart. REMOVE is the normal uninstall: it restores the first-install baseline and writes its log to the USB. See remove ScreenTune.
  4. Contact support if the screen never stays up, the prompt does not appear, or the problem continues after REMOVE. Send the details support needs, including the USB contents as a ZIP.

If the prompt offers INSTALL instead, ScreenTune is not installed. After a power loss, follow the next section. Otherwise choose CANCEL and contact support.

If power was lost while ScreenTune was working, ScreenTune’s startup work stays disabled. Insert the USB, choose INSTALL once, and keep the ignition on. INSTALL restores the first-install baseline before it applies anything. If INSTALL does not complete, contact support; in rare cases an interrupted change needs recovery service.

Contact support before a factory reset or reflash

Section titled “Contact support before a factory reset or reflash”

Contact support first, even after the 90-day support window. A reflash is the right step when support recommends it. ScreenTune recovery covers the recovery options in order, including service for a unit that will not read any USB drive.
