Common questions.
Do I need a computer?
No. The only things you ever touch are the USB stick we mail you and your own car. There's nothing to download, install, or flash.
Will it work on my car?
ScreenTune is made for factory Gen 6 Mazda Connect screens on v74.00.324A: the MX-5 Miata (2016–2023), CX-5 (2016–2020), CX-9 (2016–2020), CX-3 (2016–2021), Mazda3 (2014–2018), Mazda6 (2016–2021). Newer cars on the same name often use a different system. When you order we confirm your model, year, and firmware, so what arrives is right for your car. The full list is on supported vehicles.
Is it safe? Can it be undone?
We test every build on real hardware, and ScreenTune only touches the screen unit, never the engine, brakes, transmission, or anything that moves the car. You can uninstall from the Miatafy app, which restores the files it backed up. No modification is risk-free: the rare failure is a boot loop, usually recoverable over USB, and the car still drives; the engine, brakes, and gauges all run on their own. How do you know it won't break my screen?
Because the experimenting never happens on your car. Every tweak is developed and tested first on a spare Mazda Connect unit we bought specifically for the bench, so nothing new is ever tried on a customer's car, or on our own. Once a build works on the bench, it's validated on our own ND2 Miata across about 60 measured boots before it ships. And everything it changes is reversible from the Miatafy app.
What doesn't it do?
It doesn't add CarPlay to a car that doesn't have it, turn wired CarPlay into wireless, or change CarPlay itself. It gets the screen ready sooner, so CarPlay connects sooner too. It adds no apps and no Wi-Fi or SSH access, and it touches nothing outside the screen unit.
Does the commander knob still work?
Yes. ScreenTune re-enables touch while moving; it takes nothing away. The commander knob, steering-wheel buttons, and voice controls keep working exactly as they do stock.
Is this a subscription?
No. It's a one-time $79 purchase. You own it.
Is it legal?
It only changes settings on your own car, the same kind of preference changes any owner is free to make. It's your car.
Does it actually make a measurable difference?
Yes, and we measure it on real hardware. CarPlay connected about 16–20 seconds sooner from a cold start (a typical stock boot of ~71s down to ~55s, up to ~20s sooner on a good boot), and the screen was touch-ready about 16 seconds sooner (around 48 down to 32). ScreenTune also switches off about a dozen background services it doesn't need, leaving noticeably more memory free. Your exact numbers vary by car, but the improvement is the same kind. I only want touch-while-driving. Is there a cheaper way?
Yes. TouchTune is our free, open-source script for that one change: build the USB yourself from the GitHub repo, or have it mailed to you preloaded. ScreenTune is the full product: a USB tested against your firmware, faster startup, the stability work, the rest of the tweaks, and 90 days of support. They share the same installer and on-car backups.
