Meters themes, custom dashboards, and refresh caps

Choose which Meters themes your car carries and design up to three dashboards of your own in My ScreenTune. Meters starts faster and can slow readings that flicker, and hosted apps now reopen after the reverse camera. Turning off Mazda maps and compass no longer freezes the car's position in CarPlay and Android Auto.

    In My ScreenTune, tick up to 10 themes for your car's Meters list and pick the one it starts on. The car gets the new list with its next ScreenTune package. Your other Meters settings carry over. A car that has never had a list chosen keeps the ten stock themes, starting on Dawnline.

    Design your own dashboards

    The dashboard builder in My ScreenTune lets you design up to three 800 × 480 dashboards over your own photo, a stock image, or a color, with numbers, bars, arcs, dials, indicators, a compass tape, and a G-meter placed where you want them, in your choice of fonts. Saved designs appear beside the stock themes, and you tick them onto the car's list the same way.

    Slow a reading that flickers

    A fast reading can now be capped to update 5, 2, or 1 times a second, every 2 seconds, or every 5 seconds. Choose a cap when you pick a reading in Meters, or under Refresh in the dashboard builder. Each reading offers the caps that suit how often it updates, and readings that already update slowly have none.

    Meters starts faster

    On our test unit, Meters now draws its first screen about 1.6 seconds after it opens from a cold start, down from about 4.3 seconds, and shows live readings nearly 3 seconds sooner. The first screen appears complete instead of filling in piece by piece.

    Meters reopens after the reverse camera

    Shifting into and out of reverse while Meters, or another app ScreenTune adds, was open used to leave the screen on the Applications list. The app now comes back when the camera closes. If you go to a different screen in the meantime, the car stays there.

    CarPlay and Android Auto maps keep moving with Mazda navigation off

    With Mazda maps and compass turned off, CarPlay and Android Auto kept receiving the position from when the car started, so Google Maps jumped back to it whenever the car stopped. ScreenTune now starts the car's GPS receiver at startup, which Mazda navigation used to do.

    Communication settings stay available

    Turning off Mazda maps and compass or Mazda voice commands greyed out Communication > Settings, so options such as automatic contact download could not be changed. The item now stays selectable and opens Mazda's communication settings as usual.

    Mazda startup order kept with voice commands or Aha off

    Turning off Mazda voice commands or Mazda's built-in Aha no longer makes other Mazda services start earlier than they normally would.

    Clearer descriptions of Mazda services

    Several services you can turn off now say more precisely what they do. Mazda maps and compass warns against turning it off on cars with Active Driving Display, and explains setting the time zone and daylight saving under Settings > Clock. Turning off SiriusXM also notes that SiriusXM Traffic and weather leave Mazda navigation.

Cluster compass and Meters controls

Touch while moving now keeps the instrument-cluster compass working when Mazda navigation remains on. Meters lets you clear the highlighted reading, and changing dashboard styles no longer leaves the knob pointing at a hidden reading.

    Choosing Touch while moving now keeps the heading visible in the instrument cluster while driving when Mazda navigation stays on. Touchscreen input, CarPlay, and Android Auto remain unrestricted. If you choose to turn Mazda navigation off, its compass remains off too.

    Background Meters settings service stops during reinstall

    Reinstalling or removing ScreenTune now stops the running Meters settings service before replacing its files. The new cluster-compass service is stopped the same way.

    Turn the highlight off

    Rotating the Commander knob one step past the layout control now clears the highlighted reading instead of returning straight to the first one, so a reading highlighted by accident no longer stays lit for the rest of the drive. Choosing a dashboard style clears it as well. With nothing highlighted, pressing the knob does nothing, and turning it again starts at the first reading.

    Choosing a dashboard style no longer leaves the highlight behind

    After choosing a dashboard style with a reading highlighted, the highlight could disappear while the knob was still pointing at a reading the new style does not show. The next turn of the knob then started again at the first reading instead of moving one step, and pressing it opened the list of readings for a position that was off screen, so the next choice changed the wrong position. Choosing a style now clears the highlight, and a style that cannot show the highlighted reading drops it as the dashboard changes.

Meters keeps a separate setup for every dashboard style

Meters now saves your readings and layout for each of the ten dashboard styles, adds a style list, and puts the style and layout within reach of the Commander knob. Saving Meters settings is also more reliable.

    The readings you pick for each position, and whether you use the full or the simple layout, are now remembered for each of the ten dashboard styles instead of being shared across all of them. Your current choices carry over to every style the first time Meters starts after the update, so you can set each style up the way you want it from there.

    Pick a dashboard style from a list

    Tapping the title at the top of Meters now opens a list of the ten styles, so you can go straight to the one you want. Previously each tap stepped to the next style, and reaching a particular one meant tapping through the others.

    Change the style and layout with the Commander knob

    Rotating the Commander knob past the last reading position now reaches the style list and the layout control. The dashboard style and the full or simple layout can be changed without touching the screen, including while driving.

    Meters no longer builds up memory as you use it

    The memory Meters uses no longer grows while you move through it with the Commander knob or choose a reading. That memory was previously given back only when the car was restarted.

    Unreadable Meters settings no longer fail on every start

    A car whose saved Meters settings cannot be read now starts with the standard settings and saves them again, instead of failing to load its settings every time it starts. The unreadable file is kept on the car so support can look at it.

    Meters settings save reliably

    A settings save long enough to be sent in more than one piece used to be refused outright. A slow or interrupted save was dropped instead of being retried, and a save too large to store was retried in the background instead of being refused with a reason. All three are fixed.

Operate the install prompt with the Mazda commander

The install, update, repair, remove, and cancel prompt can now be driven from the commander knob, so a USB run no longer requires the touchscreen.

    The prompt that offers install, update, repair, remove, and cancel can now be operated with the Mazda commander. Rotate or tilt to move the bracketed selection, press the knob to choose it, or press Back to cancel. Selecting on the touchscreen still works.

Package preparation checks the vehicle and saved choices

ScreenTune now blocks conflicting vehicle details and carries every saved service choice into the customer package.

    Customer packages now keep saved choices for navigation, voice, DAB, SiriusXM, Aha, Pandora, and Stitcher. If saved answers conflict, preparation stops for review instead of leaving out part of the configuration.

    Package preparation now compares the saved VIN and model year, validates North American VINs, and blocks unsupported early MX-5 generations before building the customer download.

Menu beeps off by default

New configurations include the option to turn off menu beeps. This release also fixes reverse-camera warning removal.

    Turns off menu beeps and some notification sounds without changing your car’s warning settings. Turn it off under Features → Customize to keep those sounds. Existing customers can add it when requesting an updated package.

    The option now removes the warning text from Mazda’s reverse-camera view, where it could previously remain visible.

Meters joins ScreenTune

Meters launches with ten instrument themes and live vehicle readings on the factory screen. This release also adds the Speedometer app and improves installation and recovery.

    Turn your Mazda Connect screen into a live instrument panel with ten themes and customizable readings for speed, RPM, temperatures, and more. Meters runs directly on the factory screen without a phone or OBD adapter and is an optional ScreenTune feature included at no extra charge.

    The new Speedometer app uses FastData when available and falls back to Mazda’s stock vehicle-data service when needed.

    Automatic recovery when an app fails to load

    ScreenTune apps now record errors in the activity log instead of showing an error dialog over the screen. A failed load retries once after three seconds; reopening the app also retries.

    A cleaner restart after installation

    Install, repair, rollback, and removal now ask Mazda’s services to save and stop before restarting. A timed fallback remains available if the normal restart request fails.

    Remove saved app settings during uninstall

    Removing ScreenTune now clears private Meters settings. Installing, updating, repairing, and recovering from a failed install continue to preserve them.

    Clock-sync option removed

    Removed the real-time-sync option because setting the system clock forward could cause repeated restarts. If your package included this option, rerun installation from an updated USB package.

    If an individual change fails, you can continue with independent changes or cancel and restore the saved baseline. Changes that depend on the failed step are skipped automatically.

    Each run saves a screentune.log file on the USB with the software version, firmware, requested action, selected changes, and results. This summary does not include your identity or vehicle identifiers.

    Clear next steps when installation is incomplete

    A final notice shows how many changes did not install and explains how to send the USB contents to support. Cancelling or encountering a fatal error still restores the saved baseline before restarting.

    Insert a blank USB and choose Collect Logs in the Miatafy app to export a diagnostic bundle. It includes the app’s activity log to help trace button presses, settings changes, and errors.

Check the whole package before making changes

Incomplete USB packages are rejected before installation changes your existing setup. GPS diagnostics gain bounded evidence captures.

    ScreenTune verifies that all files needed by your selected changes are present before modifying the existing installation. An incomplete update leaves your current configuration, managed files, and startup state intact.

Package preparation now checks that the computer-side tool and the software running on Mazda Connect use the same ScreenTune patch version.
