ScreenTune USB Prompt Does Not Appear

Work through these checks in order, retrying the USB after each one. Nothing on the car changes while the SCREENTUNE prompt is missing.

CheckWhat to do
Drive layoutOpen the USB on a computer. jci-autoupdate, START_HERE.html, screentune-agent, config.cbor, and the .up file must sit at the top level. A ZIP or a ScreenTune-<version> folder on the drive will not start. Fix the layout.
FormatOne FAT32 partition on an MBR partition table, on an 8–32 GB drive. exFAT, NTFS, and GPT do not work.
Mac hidden filesmacOS writes ._* and .DS_Store files to FAT32 drives, and a ._*.up file can confuse the car’s update scanner. Run the clean-and-eject command on the Mac.
TimingInsert the drive only after the normal home, Applications, or Settings screen appears. If you inserted it during startup, remove it, wait for the home screen, and insert it again.
PowerStart the engine or turn the ignition fully on, and keep it on for a few uninterrupted minutes.
PortPlug directly into a media USB port: no hub, splitter, extension cable, or charge-only port. Then try the car’s other media port.
One ScreenTune driveThe car uses the first USB port that holds a ScreenTune drive. Leave only one ScreenTune USB plugged in, and unplug music drives while you test.

No screentune.log means a firmware or package problem

Section titled “No screentune.log means a firmware or package problem”

After a correctly prepared drive sat in the car with the home screen up, open it on a computer. A run that reached the prompt leaves screentune.log and a logs folder at the top level. No screentune.log means ScreenTune stopped before its first step, which has two causes:

  • Unsupported firmware. The installer requires v74.00.324 (74.00.324A in North America, or 74.00.324 with a region code such as EU N or 4A N elsewhere). Open Settings → System → About (where to look). A different version means unsupported firmware.
  • A damaged or altered package. A renamed, edited, partly copied, or mixed-in file fails the same check. Format the drive and copy a fresh download from My ScreenTune downloads.

Both stop before any change, so the car is as it was.

If a music drive also fails in the same port, the problem is the port or the car’s USB hardware. See USB not working.

Contact support with your order email, a photo of Settings → System → About, a description of what the screen did, and the contents of the USB as a ZIP, even if it has no log.
