ScreenTune Install, Update, or Repair Failed
Press RESTART, wait for the home screen, and remove the USB. Zip its contents, email the ZIP to support, and do not retry until support replies. Any rollback finishes before the error screen appears, so RESTART interrupts nothing.
What to do after SCREENTUNE INSTALL ERROR
Section titled “What to do after SCREENTUNE INSTALL ERROR”- Press RESTART and keep the ignition on. Mazda Connect restarts on its own.
- Remove the USB after the home screen returns.
- On a computer, zip the entire contents of the USB, not one folder.
- Email the ZIP to support@miatafy.com with your order email, a photo of Settings → System → About, and a photo of the error screen. Get help shows how to zip the drive.
Each attempt runs another full action and restart. Support reads the first log and tells you whether a retry, a rebuilt USB, or a corrected package is the fix.
Normal messages while ScreenTune works
Section titled “Normal messages while ScreenTune works”These messages appear in order during a normal INSTALL, UPDATE, or REPAIR. None of them is an error. Keep the USB in and wait.
| Message | What is happening |
|---|---|
| Saving useful support info to your USB. Keep the USB connected. | A snapshot of the system goes to the USB before anything changes. |
| Starting ScreenTune… Keep the USB drive connected and wait a moment. | The action begins. |
| Applying with a change name and a count, such as Applying touch-while-driving (1/31)… | One line per change, counting up. The names are internal IDs; that is normal. |
| Restarting… | Every change applied. Mazda Connect restarts once on its own. |
REMOVE shows Uninstalling… and then Restarting…. A failure always ends on the SCREENTUNE INSTALL ERROR screen below.
Read the error screen
Section titled “Read the error screen”When a change fails, the screen first shows Could not apply with the change name, then
ScreenTune stopped to avoid a partial installation. and Rolling back all changes…
The change name is an internal ID such as touch-while-driving.
The final screen is titled SCREENTUNE INSTALL ERROR and has one RESTART button. It reads ScreenTune could not finish this installation. Setup did not complete safely., then one of these lines:
| Result line | What it means |
|---|---|
| 31 of 31 changes did not install. (your package’s change count, the same number twice) | None of your changes are on the car. One change failed, or setup failed before changes started, so ScreenTune undid everything. |
| All 31 changes installed, but setup did not finish. (your package’s count) | Every change applied, but a final step did not finish. Support checks the log to confirm what is on the car. |
After a rollback, ScreenTune is removed
Section titled “After a rollback, ScreenTune is removed”When the screen showed Could not apply, the rollback restored the first-install baseline and removed ScreenTune. After RESTART:
- ScreenTune is not installed. A failed UPDATE or REPAIR does not return to the previous version. The car is back on the first-install baseline, which is factory only if the car was stock at first install.
- Meters settings are kept. Theme, layout, and reading choices survive the rollback.
- The USB still works. The next insertion offers INSTALL. Wait for support before choosing it.
A failed REMOVE shows a shorter error
Section titled “A failed REMOVE shows a shorter error”A failed REMOVE ends on SCREENTUNE INSTALL ERROR with This install experienced an error. Zip the contents of this USB drive. Email the ZIP to support@miatafy.com. Press RESTART, then send the ZIP the same way. Do not run REMOVE again until support replies.
VIN messages stop before any change
Section titled “VIN messages stop before any change”ScreenTune checks the car’s VIN after you choose INSTALL, UPDATE, or REPAIR, before it changes anything. Both messages end with Nothing was changed., and an existing ScreenTune install stays as it was. REMOVE does not check the VIN.
| Message | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicle VIN: unavailable and ScreenTune could not verify this vehicle. | Mazda Connect could not read the VIN from the car. | Turn the ignition fully on, then run ScreenTune again. Start the engine and wait for the home screen first. |
| This ScreenTune package is licensed to a different vehicle. | The Licensed VIN on the package does not match the Vehicle VIN read from the car. | The USB holds another car’s package. With more than one car, download the right one from My ScreenTune downloads. If the license moved to this car, see email and ownership changes. |
The prompt does not show the VIN. The Miatafy app under Applications shows the licensed VIN and whether it matches the car.
Installation media is incomplete means rebuild the USB
Section titled “Installation media is incomplete means rebuild the USB”Installation media is incomplete. Nothing was changed. means a file on the USB is missing or unreadable. The car did not change.
- Download the package again from My ScreenTune.
- Format the USB, then copy every extracted file to the top level following USB preparation. On a Mac, finish with the clean-and-eject command.
- Insert the drive and choose the action again.
If the message returns on a freshly prepared drive, try a different USB drive, then contact support with the ZIP.
